Gemini Argon: Find a Missing Step in a Screen Recording

Inspect a short how-to recording for missing visible actions. Ask for timestamped evidence, then replay the frames before editing your tutorial or checklist.

Three film frames and a visible gap under an inspection lens illustrate a missing tutorial action with a Gemini logo.

The useful result

Create a timestamped missing-action table and verify each finding by replaying the recording.

  • Create a timestamped missing-action table and verify each finding by replaying the recording.

A transcript may say “save the file” while the recording never shows the save action. Use Argon’s video input to compare narration, visible actions and the expected procedure. This differs from summarizing a transcript: the evidence must come from inspected frames, and an action outside the recording remains unknown.

Argon access is documented in AI Studio and the API; do not assume the Gemini consumer app or a free account provides it. You can practise the technique on the supplied fictional inputs with an available compatible assistant first. This lesson is documentation-based; examples are expected results, not a claim that we ran the named model.

Before you start

  • A short permitted screen recording with no passwords or customer data.
  • A written procedure containing three to five expected visible actions.

Bring your own attachment

Attach a supported short video or a permitted extract in a video-capable Gemini interface. Include the written expected steps and identify the segment to inspect.

Review evidence

1

Define the visible actions

Write what the viewer should see: open a draft, change its title, save it, then confirm the saved state. Keep invisible backend events out of the checklist unless logs are supplied. Use a short segment so you can replay the full source yourself.

Example / expected result

Illustrative example; not a recorded model result.

Fictional checklist: open draft; edit title; press Save; see saved confirmation.

Check your result

The checklist describes observable actions rather than inferred success.

2

Ask for gaps with timestamps

Request a table of expected action, observed timestamp, evidence and status. Google documents static video processing by default and an opt-in agentic mode; use a supported configuration rather than assuming prompt wording enables it.

Try this prompt
Inspect the attached recording against my expected steps. Use MM:SS timestamps. Return expected action, visible evidence, timestamp and SHOWN/NOT SHOWN/UNCERTAIN. Distinguish narration from frames. Do not claim an action never happened outside the recording.

Example / expected result

Illustrative example; not a recorded model result.

Save | narration says “save” at 00:12, no visible click confirmed | 00:12 | UNCERTAIN; replay surrounding frames.

Check your result

Missing or unclear actions are marked NOT SHOWN or UNCERTAIN, not automatically failed.

3

Replay before revising

Open the original video at each cited point, with a few seconds on either side. If the click is too brief, inspect the segment more closely or use selected frames. Fix the tutorial only after confirming the gap.

Check your result

Each accepted finding has a manually checked timestamp or is retained as unresolved.

When it goes wrong

Sampled frames can miss short actions. Agentic video understanding is a configuration choice, not an assurance that every frame was examined. A recording cannot establish events in an unseen window or prove that a save reached the server.

Make it your own

Record a harmless four-step local demonstration and deliberately omit its confirmation view. See whether the table distinguishes a visible click from an unshown outcome.
