Canva ProSuite: Keep Your Design Handoff Editable

Plan an editable handoff across Canva ProSuite tools. Preserve layers, fonts, motion intent and export settings so an AI-assisted concept can become usable production work.

At a glance

  • A connected suite still needs an explicit delivery contract.
  • Keep editable sources and flattened previews together.
  • Test a real receiving application before promising compatibility.

The news and the production question

Define what must remain editable before starting the design. Canva’s ProSuite announcement connects Affinity, Cavalry, Flourish and Leonardo. It describes native Affinity files opening in Cavalry with layers intact, plus additional integrations and planned capabilities. Read the launch details and distinguish currently supported paths from features described as coming soon.

The editorial significance is that generating a visual is becoming only one stage in a larger production chain. The receiving designer still needs to know which elements can change, which fonts are available and which effects survive a transfer. A beautiful flattened preview cannot answer those questions.

Write a delivery contract in plain language

Choose one realistic deliverable: a short product announcement with a static social image and a simple motion version. List the editable parts, approved copy, dimensions, color requirements and final formats. Identify the receiving application and its installed version.

Keep the source of each asset visible. An AI-generated texture, an owned photograph and a licensed font have different provenance. Confirm the intended use under their applicable terms before promising that every recipient can redistribute the source package.

Organize the working document for change

Use descriptive layer names and group related elements. Separate artwork, live type, masks, backgrounds and motion-critical objects. Keep approved copy in a text source beside the design so a reviewer can check the words without extracting them from a preview.

If generated artwork contains decorative lettering, replace important text with editable type. For more on that choice, see the AI poster typography workflow. Do not ask a production editor to repair a critical slogan embedded inside an image at the last minute.

Test the transfer with a small sample

Before completing the project, move a representative source through the exact supported path you intend to use. Check a live text element, a mask, a grouped object and an effect. Inspect the result in the receiving application, not only in an exported image.

Element What the receiver should verify
Text Font, spacing, line breaks and editability
Layers and groups Names, order and independent selection
Transparency No unwanted halo or flattening
Motion Duration, easing and object boundaries
Color Output profile and visual agreement

This is a proposed acceptance test, not a claim that all file types preserve all effects. If a transfer loses a feature, document the limitation and agree on an alternative before making the full asset set.

Use AI to prepare the handoff notes

An assistant can turn approved project details into a concise delivery sheet:

Prepare handoff notes from these verified project details:
{{source_files_layers_fonts_exports_and_receiver_version}}
Return editable components, fixed components, font and asset
requirements, known transfer limitations and export settings.
Flag missing information instead of inventing compatibility.
Add a receiver checklist for one static file and one motion file.
Do not describe a flattened preview as an editable source.

For an illustrative launch card, the product photograph might remain a placed image, while the headline and accent shapes remain editable. The motion version may animate only the accent shapes. That is a clear, useful boundary even if the entire scene is not procedurally editable.

Package and inspect the actual exports

Deliver a source package, a clearly named preview and the agreed final formats. Include versions and a short README with known limitations. Open each export at the intended display size and inspect compression, legibility and timing. Check the mobile crop separately from the full artboard.

Ask the receiving person to make one small change and re-export. If they can do it without reconstructing the asset, the handoff has passed a meaningful test. Your next action is a sample transfer, not a full campaign generated on the assumption that connected tools make production decisions automatic.
